Task 1
Ford Mondeo - Tom & Jerry (2003, UK):
This advertisement is showcasing a new car. The advert mixes 2D animation in the real world (similar to Space Jam) to create an advert that is funny and grabs the audiences attention. Furthermore the character in the animation are Tom the cat and Jerry the cat, two very iconic cartoon characters from the cartoon Tom & Jerry. The advert is clearly targeted for adults, because adults are the ones who are looking to buy cars. Also, Tom & Jerry is a fairly old cartoon, so an older audience is most likely going to appeal to this because they may have enjoyed Tom & Jerry themselves. I personally like this advert because I used to be a fan of Tom & Jerry when I was younger. The animation is well executed and interacts with the world in a very impressive way. It also still matches the same style of the actual cartoon. This is important when you make an ad like this because you want the feeling of nostalgia to hit the audience.
Samsung Galaxy Fold | 2019 Commercial:
This advertisement is showcasing a new phone by the company Samsung. It is a slow paced advert with calming music, and its aim is to reveal the new generation of smartphones; the foldable phone. The advert gets many close-ups of the smartphone to build up to the final reveal to create a sense of mystery. This is a logos style advert, as it is showing you all the different ways you can use the phone in order to convince the audience to purchase it. As this product is very expensive, I imagine the target audience meant to be for wealthy adults. The advert also uses music from an old film, "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory", which could have been purposely chosen to attract adults who might've seen the film. In my opinion this advert is very good; It has calming music, the camera angles are great. and (assuming the phone is a 3D model) the phone looks really detailed and realistic. I am very glad I found this advert because I plan to make a similar advert to this but with a Macbook that I modelled in Blender, so this advert will be a good reference to look back on.
"Three Little Pigs" | 2012 TheGuardian Advert:
This advertisement is showcasing a newspaper, The Guardian. The advert is very fast paced and has a lot going on in a short amount of time. This advert for the Guardian's open journalism showcases how they might cover the story of the three little pigs in print and online. Follow the story from the paper's front page headline, through a social media discussion and finally to an unexpected conclusion. This advert is an ethos style advert, as it is showing the audience their methods of journalism to convince them to read their news, and it throws in a bit of humor in their as well . The context of the advert makes this advert funny on its own, let alone the ridiculous pig and wolf costumes and the plot. I feel that the advert is targeted to young adults who follow social media a lot, because they could easily relate to the social media discussions that are showed in this advert. Furthermore adults are more likely to read newspapers as they may be more caring about what goes on around the world than children would be. I personally like this advert because how over the top and fast paced it is. It manages to cram so much story into a short amount of time. The production of the advert is also top quality; great practical effects, 2D animation and camera work.
